THE PROCESS
During the beginning of the Rangle project, we developed questions to better understand our target user and assess their wants and needs for the platform. We utilised Survey Monkey initially and gravitated towards Google sheets to enable us to send branded and professional looking questionnaires to industry professionals. We concluded that the mean age demographic was 23-45.
Asking the right questions was empirically retrieving the right data from our testers. Further on from the initial questionnaires, we would analyse the data and either add new features or change how the platform operated. The changes made were based only on ideas that the team of Rangle agreed on.
Further through the process, the platform would be tested as a beta with a group of users and industry professionals, to eliminate snags in the app and ensure it performed as intended.
User Testing
We began testing from the very start of the project, to assure that we provided an app that was easy and appealing to use. We began the process by developing questionnaires for individuals in the sector to better understand what would be the users wants and needs for the platform. We carried out 4 different phases of testing: questionnaires, low-fi testing, hi-fi and on-device testing.
In the beginning, our highest priority was to ensure the user flow, feature list and navigation of the app succeeded the user's expectations. During the first 3 months of the project we performed user testing with three different versions of the app, lo-fi, hi-fi, and beta and analysed questionnaires from our sample demographic and professionals within the industry. Following on from this we tested the work-flows, colour schemes and layout, till we felt they were coherent. At around the 3-month mark, we sent out an alpha to users to test and provide feedback on bugs and improvements that could still be made. We conducted 3 stages of on-device prototyping, firstly we carried out invision prototyping on the finalised UI, then alpha prototyping on the user's device and final beta prototyping. In the final stage of testing, we polished up the interface and prepared the website, social media campaigns for the release of the product.
Below are snapshots of key points in our iterative process.
